IS 280 NetDimes Task

Can be done in GCB 143 or GCB 147 or maybe at home.
Some computers on campus will not work due to firewalls.

Time: Expected to take about twenty minutes.
Goal: Appreciate the "net" part of Internet.
Show: step 57 creates a network map you will show in class.

These are suggested instructions.  They should work.  However, you are
free to modify them so long as you meet the goal and create the show.

11. Go to http://colton.byuh.edu/courses/is280/
12. Select the NetDIMES installer and download it.
13. Run the NetDIMES Installer.
14. Click on "I Agree", "Next", "Next", "Install", "Finish"
15. You will see Dimes Registration, Welcome to the DIMES Project.
16. Click on "I have installed on other computers", "Next"
17. Username: doncolton, Password: aloha
18. On Agent Details: press "Next"
19. Run NetDIMES.

21. Select Agent > Properties > Network
22. Set delay to the smallest number (15)
23. Set File Transfer Rate to the largest number (51)
24. Click on Okay, it should update user details

31. In about a minute, popcorn will explode on your screen.
32. Make the screen to be as big as you can.
33. Click on a dot and drag it around.
34. Occasionally press "Get Info."  The dots will change colors.
35. Experiment with the other settings
36. Watch the screen fill up with dots for about ten minutes.
37. The more dots you have, the better it is.

41. When the screen gets pretty full of dots, do this:
42. Select Agent > Properties > Network
43. Set delay to the largest number (315)
44. Set File Transfer Rate to the smallest number (1)
45. Click on Okay, it should update user details

51. Press "Get Info."
52. Select Color by ISP
53. Select Group by ISP
54. Select Name by ISP and look at the results
55. Select Name by dot
56. Select Agent > Save Graph
57. Save a jpg of your network map to show in class later

61. Select Agent > Exit
62. Uninstall NetDIMES or Reboot your computer.
