Privacy Statement Your eCommerce web site must have a privacy statement. Ideally this statement should be available as a link from your home page, generally linked to the word Privacy, which appears toward the bottom of your home page. The privacy statement should explain your corporate policy on data collection and privacy. Do you sell your customer information to direct marketers? Might you do so in the future? What information do you retain, and how exactly do you plan to use it? Are you willing to make any guarantees to your customers? In preparation for writing your own privacy statement, find at least five other web sites that have privacy statements, or sites that talk about privacy statements. Be prepared to show them in class. Read through at least three of the statements and be prepared to comment on their strengths and weaknesses, from your perspective as a business person as well as from your perspective as a customer. Were there any parts that you found interesting or strange? In class you will be asked to show your privacy statement, reaching it from your site's home page. You will be asked to explain it, telling why you included each part of it. You will also be asked to identify the five sites you found and the three that you read. You will be asked to tell about them.
