Subject: CS 490R on Feb 9

I am sorry to announce that the Feb 9 class will be cancelled due to
it conflicting with the McKay lecture activities that day. (I am
giving the McKay lecture.) I just found out about the conflicts a few
minutes ago.

I will rework the schedule in the vicinity of Feb 9.

Subject: CS 490R welcome

Welcome to the CS 490R class for which you are enrolled this coming
semester.

I am pleased to announce that a preliminary syllabus is available. You
can find it at http://byuh.doncolton.com/cs440/2121/syl.pdf

(It is cs440 instead of cs490r because 490r covers a lot of classes,
and this particular class used to be called cs440. I have not bothered
to change it.)

I also wrote a study guide for the class. You can download it from
http://byuh.doncolton.com/cs440/2121/cs440.pdf

It basically hits on the things that will affect your grade.  It is 73
pages.

It would be great if you could reply to me with two pieces of
information.

(a) I have your preferred name as "xxxxx". Please let me know if that
is the name I should use for you, and if not please let me know the
name you would prefer.

(b) Please indicate whether you are willing to be called upon to say a
prayer in class. I generally do this by assignment, and since there
are eight people in the class, each person that is willing is usually
called upon about once a month.
