Catalog: IT 480. Computer Network Design (3) (F) Networking of computers and configuration of managed networking equipment including switches and routers, with special emphasis on Cisco equipment and protocols. (Prerequisite: IT 280. Corequisite: IT 480L.)

Each student will need a personal copy of the Network Simulator. You can install it on your personal computer. If each student has a personal copy, the publisher will probably let us install it in the lab. That should help those students who do not have their own computers. Note, also, that there is a regular version and an academic version of the Network Simulator. The academic edition costs more than the regular version. The academic edition has 29 extra tasks to be graded by the teacher. Other than that, they seem to be identical.

We will try to cover the entire book. If you get your copy before class begins, please go ahead and start reading. The author has a "chatty" style which means you should be able to flow along with it better than some books. Try to get a good overview of what he is saying. Later, as the semester goes along, you may need to re-read parts for detailed understanding, but before the semester, just try to get a good overview of the material.
